The Core of What We Do

Restaurant owners are always looking at new ways to market and promote their business, often throwing anything against the wall to see if it will stick. It’s always good to look for new ways to improve your marketing, but often we forget the basis of everything we do in the restaurant itself namely, the menu. Everything starts with your menu, everything. Think about it, it’s the first thing you hand a guest when they sit down, they have to read it to order. In order to find out what you offer they read the menu and usually discuss it with fellow diners. Here’s this piece of content that all the customers see yet sometimes little thought is given to the words contained in it, or the training of your staff to know and understand it.

So before we place Facebook ads or promote Instagram posts let’s focus on our menus. Is the wording clear and concise? Are there descriptive words that tell you about the offerings but not too much? Are your best dishes highlighted in some way? If you buy exceptional ingredients is their provenance indicated? Sometimes we can go overboard with descriptors as well, and honestly saying “homemade” on your menu too often can be irritating and lose the desired effect of letting people know you take a lot of pride in your cooking. There are other ways to say this or even better…
